題目:People have different views on how to reduce traffic congestion. Some think that governments should build more train and subway lines, while others think that building more and wider roads will reduce traffic congestion. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

參考例文:Traffic jam is now a headache to every urbanite. However, argument arises when it comes to the measures to address it. Some people propose the massive construction of underground rails and inter-city trains; others suggest an expansion of road systems in terms of numbers and width. I will closely examine both views before sharing my opinion. On one hand, the development of railways directly lowers the volume of traffic on the roads. Since the trains run on the underground rails or overpasses that do not intersect with road systems, they will not compete with road traffic for space. Moreover, the capacity of trains is incomparable. It is estimated that a compartment of a train carries thirty passengers on average, way higher than the load of an average bus. Clearly, with a large number of daily commuters taking the train, this is a considerable diversion of traffic from the road. On the other hand, it is more cost-effective to make the best use of the existing road systems. Since the current infrastructure is oriented towards motor-vehicles especially cars, not trains, building railways requires the reconstruction of many bridges and tunnels, which turns out rather costly. Therefore, it costs less to expand the current road networks by widening the road, increasing the lanes of all types of vehicles and having more sidewalks for pedestrians. In this way, more spaces are created for the traffic and roads become less crowded. In my opinion, widening roads inevitably entails the removal of stores and some neighborhoods on the roadside. The inconvenience it causes to local residents and the large-scale relocation of population, along with the possible loss of some greenbelts on the sidewalk, are the huge costs of the road expansion project. Therefore, I find the construction of railway a more realistic choice.
