　　一、教育

　　9.Once children start school, teachers have more influence than parents on their intellectual and social development. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (08.09.06)

　　淺析：教育類的新題。目前題庫(kù)中沒有任何題目與之相近。然而，如果考生聰明一點(diǎn)，完全可以將“老師”引申為“學(xué)?！被蛘摺敖逃保@樣的思路就比較寬。首先看看兩個(gè)概念。一是什么是intellectual development? Intellectual development refers to the development of one’s ability to think, to understand ideas and to acquire knowledge.

　　二是什么是social development?Social development refers to the acquisition and improvement of skills that are essential to social life or activities that have relevance to one’s functioning in society.

　　老師對(duì)小孩的學(xué)習(xí)能力和社會(huì)能力的影響：

　　老師更具有專業(yè)性：

　　老師可以制定教學(xué)方法(devise teaching methods)，練習(xí) (drills)，設(shè)計(jì)功課(design assignments)，甚至可以調(diào)整課程(revise the curriculum)，來提高小孩的學(xué)習(xí)能力。譬如說，繪畫可以提高小孩的想象能力(ability to visualize different subjects)，精讀(critical reading)可以提高小孩的歸納能力 (abilities to summarize key messages of a reading passage) ，實(shí)驗(yàn)課(lab experiments)可以提高小孩的觀察能力(abilities to observe and detect differences);家長(zhǎng)一般是不可能有那么全面的知識(shí)，全方面的開發(fā)小孩的智力(foster children’s intellectual development in different aspects)

　　老師可以通過課程和功課的安排，來提高小孩的社會(huì)能力。譬如說，體育可以增加小孩的團(tuán)隊(duì)精神(inject a strong sense of team spirit)，小組作業(yè)(group assignments)可以讓小孩習(xí)慣于相互幫助(join efforts/make joint-effects to deal with problems)，參加社區(qū)活動(dòng)(community activities)可以提高小孩對(duì)社區(qū)的理解(have a strong sense of community)

　　家長(zhǎng)對(duì)小孩的學(xué)習(xí)能力和社會(huì)能力的影響：

　　家長(zhǎng)可以指導(dǎo)小孩完成作業(yè)(provide instruction)，從而確保教育延續(xù)到家里(consistency of education between school and home environments);家長(zhǎng)可以通過一些課外活動(dòng)來幫助小孩提高技能，譬如說gardening, 提高小孩的動(dòng)手能力和解決問題能力(hands-on skills and problem-solving abilities)

　　家長(zhǎng)在小孩的社會(huì)生活中起著重要的作用;家長(zhǎng)決定了小孩和什么人接觸，參加什么社會(huì)活動(dòng)(social activities)，決定了社會(huì)學(xué)習(xí)的效果(outcomes of social learning)，掌握禮儀(etiquettes)
